12/30/94 Madison Square Garden, NYC, NY A typically awesome, 5.0 Phish
show if ever there was one, in my opinion.
The Tweezer (PAGE!!) is fantastic, and I enjoy the first set Stash,
and this YEM is quite good. But generally? Pretty average
awesome 5.0 Phish show... It was "fun." Opening is ok.. the pre-Nirvana
section is typically beautiful, but not too long, and no
serious "Vibration of Life." Nirvana at 3:13. The Nirvana section is
fair, but Mike's solo-section is delightful, with Mike
unusually whimsical on & high up the 'doc. A surprisingly friendly
effort. The first shot at the Note at 5:17 is hit flawlessly and
well-jammed upon by Trey with a hasty Auld Lang Syne tease!! Very nice!
Good, strong pre-charge.. and the second shot at
the Note at 6:03 is well-sustained. "Boy" after the charge at 6:36.
BMGS/WUDMTF segment is standard/great, with a nice lil
jam (PAGE) before the second round of WUMDTF utterances. Tramps jam
at 8:50 and PAGE is all over it from the very
start! Excellent Page!!!!! Jam segment basically starts at 10:27 with
Trey quietly noodling (accompanied only by Fish). Clapping
from some in the crowd (!). At 11:04 outright Oye Como Va tease (I
remember screaming after that one, like a frat-boy d00d
at Sample's intro).. and then at 11:25 Trey begins an intriguing theme
that reminds me of something, but I can't name it. :( Seems
related to Oye Como Va, only it is in a different key and a few octaves
lower. ;) And Mike gets into it around 12:05. At 12:20
Trey teases a lick right out of "Rock and Roll Hootchie Coo." (but
there's a different tease before Hootchie Coo that I can't
name) At around 13:30 Trey starts leading a very groovy YEM, and there's
quite a pleasant build into a typically raging,
glorious YEM jam!!!!! Fantastic jamming for the next two minutes, and
then at 15:30 the finale of the jam segment comes in
(quite Grand).. and at 15:51 Mike and Fish kick out the B&D segment
(and Trey throws some effects in at the beginning).
Some ultra-funky, active & reasonably melodious phaaaaaaat licks
from Mike!! Great soloing from Mike to close out the
segment, too!! Closing WUDMTF segment at 17:37 acompanied by clapping...
vocal jam quickly ensues, and it starts out
slowly. However, at nearly twenty minutes, this highly amusing groove
develops with Mike and Page singing "Doo Doo" (pause)
"Doo Doo" with Fish and Trey going off underneath. An extremely amusing
vocal jam!! Great harmonizing, too!!!!! =^]
Unusually melodious vocal jam! Well, at least for a little while. Fish
is "oooou"-ing quite amusingly throughout this vocal jam,
until the last minute or so. Total time 23:24 (Page immediately starts
playing HYHU and Fish & Trey quickly say "Purple
Rain"... tis very rare that Page makes a mistake..). This was a typically
awesome YEM, and then some, in my opinion. B/B+
rating. two cents KingMoron420
