Thanks to Marc Rehfuss for setting me up with a copy of
yet another excellent May '89 show.

I was wrong about the tramps starting in 10/89.  Before
the YEM, Trey says "All right.  Ok, uh, seeing that it is
such a beautiful night, this next song we're going to do
here [pause]  We'll be moving on to the trampoline segment
of the show now. [laughter]  We hope that you'll do the
same on your imaginary trampolines. [pause, says "What's
that?" to  another band member]  So you guys are going to
have to make do with imaginary trampolines because we
haven't finished building yet the Phish -- um, we're
building a place where we're going to play where the
entire floor is a huge trampoline like as big as this
field.  It's gonna be all speakers up underneath the floor
and everything, it's gonna be great. Ok this is called
'You Enjoy Myself,' so please do. [pause] 1 - 2 - 3 - 4."

Opening standard, no pre-Nirvana build (like all old
versions).  Nirvana at 1:39.  Page's accompaniment in here
is very enchanting -- it often is.  Only on this old,
somewhat muddy SBD, he's especially up front in the mix,
and well, comes across majestically.  Mike's solo segment
is pleasant, but nothing unusually impressive from him.
The charge segment is marvelously played (Page
especially.. I don't know what it is.. he just really
stands out in here .. initially, at least).  Trey's first
attack at The Note at 3:45 is basically right on (he hits
it twice), and his jamming in here is fine (accompaniment
is great, as usual).  Charge at 4:46.

"Boy" at 5:04 after a good scream.  WUDMTF segment fun..
standard.  Tramps jam at 7:18 or so, with fine stuff from
Page, signals from Mike, a well-maintained groove from
Fish.

Jam segment kicks in full force at 9:12, after Trey spent
about 45 seconds jamming with Page (who was still leading,
as always, pursuant to the Rules of the Tramps Segment).
They couldn't have been on the tramps for much more than a
minute, though.  This may have been the first *live* show
with the Tramps.  I checked 4/20/89 and 5/9/89, and well,
there were no tramps segment signals from Mike, and Trey
didn't stop playing while Page jammed.

Trey's opening licks are extraordinarily R&B motivated,
until he starts noodling wildly around 10 minutes.  It is
fairly melodious in here.  He's all over the place,
chording here, noodling there, sustaining..  This is a
decent jam, but not nearly as profound as 5/28/89, imo.
It is also short.  Bass and drums around 11:50 or so.
Although the Mike's Groove of this show is fantastic for
the pre-90 period, this YEM is not, in my opinion.  It is
good, but not well above average, as I hear it.

Final WUDMTF segment around 12:40 or so.  Vocal jamming by
13 minutes.  A fun vocal jam.. Fish drums right through
it.  Screaming from Trey and Mike.  Serious small
furry creatures influence in this one, typical of the Olde
Vocal Jams.  "WhoooooOaaaaaaa" bwaahahaha.. this is a fun
one, for sure.. but short.  Total time 14:28.  "WILSON
SUCKS!!!"  I highly recommend this show for discussion
between tunes.  Trey is REALLY into talking to the crowd
in this show.. (C rating)
