2/3/93 Portland Expo, Portland, ME The pre-Nirvana segment contains
some noodlin and "vibration of life" sorta stuff at
first, but nothing engaging (outside of the crowd applause during it!
first I've heard.. they give up after about 30 seconds,
though). Verrry long Nirvana segment... spacey... mystical.. until
3:46, when Page starts playing "My Girl" briefly, and Mike and
Trey eventually join in. More "my girl" teasing... Finally, Nirvana
at 4:52 or so. This has been easily the longest pre-Nirvana
segment I've reviewed so far. My copy cuts very badly to side B during
Mike's solo section. Cuts into the pre-charge. First shot
at The Note -- and the jamming surrounding it -- is just bewildering.
Trey goes off the deep end for this!! (I'm adding 30
seconds to the timings to make up for the cut) Second Note equally
impressive! Just fantastic!! Excellent opening to this
YEM!!! "Boy" basically at 8:10 or so, after an enormous scream from
Trey. This is the infamous "Water your team in a beehive
I'm a sent you" segment (no WUDMTF). Trey says "Water your beehive
in a team I'm a sent you" the second time around,
though. This might be the only version of YEM that I have were they
screw around like this with this segment (unfortunately; I
wish they did this more often!). Tramps jam SOLIDLY at about 10:20..
very awesome! Lotsa Page! Jam segment around
12:10 minutes, and Trey just melodically rips it up in the upper reaches
of the 'doc. Absolutely amazing jam segment. Non-stop
roaring Trey, with magnificent accompaniment. Hear it!!!! I won't say
any more.. it ***ROCKS***. Spectacular!!! B&D at 15
minutes or so. Funky and great as in a beehive I'm a sent you. Closing
"Water your team in a beehive I'm a sent you" and vocal
jam at around 16 or something. "Where did momma send you.." Team I'm
a sent you.. and then a very Lion Sleeps Tonight-like
vocal groove in here, over more "Where did momma send you" from Fish.
Eventually, the vocal jam mellows and its just the
usual chanting stuff.. total time 21 minutes or so. This was an incredible
version of YEM. Original, spontaneous, well-jammed
throughout. I have to give it an A-/A rating. I'm going to reserve
the full "A" ratings to only the truly get-at-all-costs versions.
