Well, the evening started inauspiciously when I was held up at work,
forced
to be half an hour late for the net gathering. At 7:00 I made it to Muddy
Waters, only to be greeted by a completely empty cavern of a bar. Ouch...
I felt really bad, having told people I'd be there at 6:30. Sorry about
that.
So I shimmied on over to the original meeting place (thinking maybe some
people hadn't gotten the second location info) to find that similarly
abandoned. So, hunkering down to some much needed dinner, I ended up
crossing
paths with some netters from University of Illinois (Mike et al?), and we
left after some while to get into Mississippi Nights (where we
subsequently
uncrossed paths...). When the band came on, the crowd was *really*
responsive... this was going to be a good show. They opened with Llama,
and
everybody was moving. While I don't remember the setlists, some highlights
were... a great Col Forbin->Famous Mockingbird, where in between Trey had
the whole place melting, through the floorboards, through the basement,
underwater, to a different land... Gamehenge. At appropriate points the
crowd gave full response, such as swishing over the dance floor, and
sitting
down when melting and sinking. Every jam was hot, and there was so much
energy
in the place, between the band and the crowd... it was really incredible.
Maze was very hot, as was David Bowie, It's Ice, and a special treat,
Harry
Hood. The band did a really sweet a capella Carolina in the Morning to an
almost silent crowd (with spontaneous snapping keeping time from the
middle
of the song on) who couldn't resist singing along, the last few words, at
the
songs end. I know I'm fogetting alot of details (i.e. smoke machine during
Windam Hell that billowed out from back stage, to encompass the whole
audience
by songs end), but the show on the whole was one of the better ones I've
seen
in a while.

        Yours dutiful slacker,
        Bill

Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd do a quick review of the show last night at
Mississippi
Nights. The highlight for me was Bowie. The band was on fire for the
whole
song and Trey's solos were amazing. Other great jams came on Stash, Maze,
and
YEM, which had a really funky vocal improv at the end. Other songs
included
(in no particular order): Fee (sounded great w/megaphone), Cavern, Llama,
(very hot), Rockey Top (encore), Poor Hearty Squirming Coil, and alot
more which I can't remember right now. Sorry I couldn't post the exact
set
list, but my memory is gone.
[D[D The show in general was upbeat. The place was packed, so
there wasn't
really much room to move around. Security was pretty mellow, except for
one
woman who jumped up on the stage twice before being taken away. All in
all,
not the best show I have ever seen, but certainly up there. It was great
just to see the band again (those of us in the Midwest don't quite get the
same number of shows as you Easterners do, y'know.) BTW, Fish also
played Faht (while they filled the place w/smoke), but he introduced it by
another name--Windham Hell, or something like that.
Sorry this was show short, but I have tons of work which I have to
get to.
Also, If anyone has a copy of the show please e-mail me. I have some
Phish to
tradeee, or I will trade blanks. I would love to have a copy of this
show.
See y'all NYE.

I just remembered there was also a Col. Forbin's--> Mockingbird with Trey
doing an hilarious narrative (certainly not the usual one). Bye.

What can I say but ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!!
Here's a copy of the setlist, I might be missing something, so feel free
to add
anything I may have missed. THe order is also probably not exact either.

Set I: Set II:
Llama Suzy Greenburg
Foam David Bowie*
Stash Esther
Poor Heart Possum
Glide Harry Hood
Sparkle Squirming Coil
Fast Enough For You Carolina in the Morning+
Col Forbins Ascent-->         Windham Hell+
 Famous Mockingbird YEM**
It's Ice
Maze
Cavern****                        ENC:   Fee++       Rocky Top

* WIth signals!!--Doh! All fall down! Aw, Fuck!
+ Carolina & Windham surrounded with Hold your Head Up w/Trey on drums!
** TRAMPOLINES!!!
++ With Megaphone
**** CHICK JUMPED ON STAGE AND STARTED DANCING-->TWICE!!!!

An incredible show! Trey had to be on something during Llama---AWESOME
guitar
work! Jon's new dress is killer. Mike wore a neat hat for the first set.
Has anybody ever watched Page's face when he sings? The man is a savage!!
He
looks completely demented!
Llama was brilliant! Awesome guitar. It's Ice, Maze, and Sparkle all
smoked! (Laugh and laughing fall apart!) I was one of the few people to
catch
the signals. Only about 5 people actuall fell down!! And boy did the
rest of
the crowd look at us funny!! I've never heard David Bowie sound better,
and
Possum ROCKED! Rocky Top was a great closing song, though it really left
everbody totally psyched and wanting more!!
The narrative on Col Forbin was something along the lines of:
We all melt and coalese into one huge blob of liquid, thicker than water,
and
we slowly drip thru the floorboards into the basement, through the
basement
into the mighty Mississippi, past Bill Clinton's house, into the Gulf of
Mexico
where we sink deeper and deeper. We are passed by a school of phish and a
submarine, and sink until we see a purple light and enter a cave. We all
emerge from the water inside the cave as one blob and slowly reform as
people.
We look around and see a green field as far as the eye can see, and in the
middle of the field is a large Rhombus, and we know then that we are in
Gamehenge!! But we can't get to the Rhombus and we all climb a wooden
plank
leading upward with rock underneath it as a pivot. We all look up and see
the Famous Mocking bird drop a boulder on the other end of the plank and
propel us all into the air. We fall, and our parachutes open, and we can
see
all of Gamehenge: Wilson's castle, Col Forbin climbing the mountain. And
then
we see a speck flying from the mountain---it is the Famous Mocking bird
which
just a dropped a boulder on us, traveling out to steal the HPB from the
evil
King Wilson! Here he comes.. ---Break into Famous Mockingbird--

Sorry for the long windedness, but it was a great show. And there's only
one
more thing: The chick was taken of stage by the bouncers at the point in
Cavern where the lyrics go "taking turns at grapping her", then "The crowd
meanwhile had taken Sue." Stranglely appropriate!

Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning---

  John

That show was incredible. No iphs and or buts about it. From start to
finish
they were on fire. The crowd was into it, and the Phab Phour responded.
for about
three and a half hours of pure satisphaction they jammed. I'm not sure of
the
whole list but they started with Llama. The first set included Poor Heart,
Statsh
.Second Set opened with Suzie Greenberg. They also playedHarry Hood, and
god
I can't remember. Encores were Fee and Rocky Top.
Highlights were David Bowie which was absolutely rocking.
Did any netters happen to tape it? It was my phirst show, and I cant wait
till the next. Unphortunately it won't be till after New Year's I'll be
away.
