5/9/89 The Front, Burlington, VT (Rvwd 3/95) I tell you, these May Front shows are really must-haves. The opening to this Mike's Song is as standard as they get, but damn, the jam segment is HOT! Trey just smokes this version, not to mention everyone else! It is in the typical MikeS jam form, that we all know and love, with nothing Curious and hose-like occurring, but it is still great. Really strong and fierce. Trey sustains a note at one point for a longer period of time than he usually does during MikeS. This becomes an avg. version at 6 and a half mins (well, this might have been 'average' for back then..), but it is still very good. Hydrogen is standard. Weekapaug kicks in after a few, and is great as usual, but no teases of other tunes or anything out of the ordinary. Ends at the 15 and a half min mark (the entire Mike's Groove). C- ... The YEM is really great at this show, not to mention the La Grange, which has got to be the best version that I have ever heard anyone do anywhere at anytime. It is incredible. The ZZ Top version is worth less than a mountain of horse manure in a sea of Ripple Blanc compared with this one. Get it!!!!!
